Harward Family Donates Pumpkins

Submitted by monica.bair on

On October 26th, representatives with the Harward family and Harward Farms came to Maple Ridge to give each student a pumpkin.  Teachers were able to use these pumpkins to teach about agriculture, or to reinforce/teach other concepts with math and reading (i.e. find the average weight, circumference, number of seeds).  Maple Ridge faculty and students would like to thank the Harward family for their generous donation to our school.

Although National Boss's (Bosses) Day was on October 16th in the middle of Fall Break, teachers and coworkers honored Principal Matis by decorating her office, and dressing in black and white for the occasion.  Throughout the week, classes around the school presented Mrs. Matis with something to honor her.

PTA Carnival a Great Success!

Submitted by monica.bair on

On Thursday, October 1st, Maple Ridge had its first fundraising Carnival to raise funding for the PTA.  Along with a book themed basket auction, carnival games and food helped generate funding for the PTA.  Students, teachers and parents helped with the organization, as well as participated in helping with the games.  School principal Mrs. Matis donned some rain boots and a poncho, but this did little to protect her from the Fun Flush!

Learning About Ancient Egypt

Submitted by monica.bair on

As part of their unit in social studies, sixth grade students recently worked on a project where they had to create a Google slide presentation, and present their research on Ancient Egypt to the rest of the class. They were trying to persuade their audience to travel to Ancient Egypt.  Each student in the group had a specific assignment relating to Egypt such as researching daily life, hieroglyphics, pyramids, and fun facts.
