On Wednesday, March 8th, fifth grade students participated in the Wax Museum. They researched and studied a famous and/or influential person from US history and dressed up as that person. Classes from around the school visited the museum throughout the morning as did parents.

Recently, Becky Manning, a third grade teacher at Maple Ridge Elementary, was chosen as the Outstanding Educator by the Springville/Mapleton PTA council. According to many of Mrs. Manning's colleagues, she is an amazing teacher for many reasons. Not only does she know her students well, but she does all she can to meet the needs of every individual student in her class. Not only does she have a great rapport with parents and students, but she does with her coworkers as well. She is the school technology specialist and spends countless hours helping teachers with computer issues and also trains others in some of the best teaching practices using technology. We are so blessed to have her here at Maple Ridge!
Sixth grade students who will be attending Diamond Fork Junior High School next year, had the opportunity to visit the school recently for an orientation. Not only were students instructed on what courses they would need to take, they were also given a tour of the school.
Bethany Silver, author of Unicorns of Udithia, visited with sixth grade students recently. She told the students about the storyline of her book, and the main character Aquarion. She also shared her story of how she wrote the book, and where she came up with the idea. Her sister, Elizabeth, also an illustrator, talked about her artwork on the cover of the book. Both Bethany and Elizabeth are from Mapleton.
On Friday, February 17th, orchestra and band members from Diamond Fork Junior High School performed for the sixth graders. About 1/5 of our sixth grade students will be attending school there next year. The orchestra and band perform to get students excited about joining one of them when students go to the junior high school.
Last week students and faculty celebrated White Ribbon Week with a special theme each day. On Friday there was an assembly to cap off a great week! The following were the daily themes to go along with White Ribbon Week.
Mustache Monday- sometimes people pretend to be who they are not.
Tuesday- Wear a tie day- don't get tied up in cyber bullying
Wednesday-Wear your shirt inside out- don't let personal info slip out
Thursday-Wear a hoodie or hat- protect your mind
Friday-Wear as much white as you can
White Ribbon Week is a positive school program presented by volunteers or teachers that helps kids make healthy choices in media and technology. Every day, kids learn a new principle of online behavior—reinforced through discussions and fun activities.
One to two students from every classroom were recently recognized for showing INITIATIVE. INITIATIVE is one of the Maple Ridge Pride characteristics. These students are consistently motivated to stay on task, and work hard to do their best! They know what needs to be done, and don't have to be asked twice. Each student recognized was given a treat along with a certificate.
